Search is on for the nation's best businesses
Release date: 26 Feb 2010
Outstanding small and medium-sized businesses are being invited to enter the National Business Awards 2010 so they can have their achievements recognised.

Sponsored by Orange, the awards are now in their ninth year and are open to businesses of all sizes in any industry sector. Twelve prizes are available, including the Employer of the Year award and the Excellence in Marketing award. The closing date for entries is 23 June 2010.

Three award categories are specifically aimed at small firms, including:

* SME Business of the Year, for the company that can best demonstrate growth, innovation and business results
* The Health, Work and Wellbeing Award, for the best example of promoting staff wellbeing
* The Customer Focus Award, which recognises outstanding improvements in customer service.

Finalists and winners can expect to receive extensive publicity across regional and national media. The 2009 awards generated over 2,000 pages of newsprint.

Each entrant will also be given a benchmarking report assessing the strength of their entry against others in their category. In addition, every small business finalist will receive a practical "how-to" marketing and PR pack.

Last year's winner of the SME Business of the Year award, Tristan Mayhew, founder of activity park Go Ape! said the awards had created fantastic PR opportunities for the company.

"Entering was in itself a good business discipline since it required a rigorous assessment of our strengths and weakness as an organisation, while going on to win the award has given us added commercial credibility," he said.

Entries cost £175 plus VAT, which includes the cost of the benchmarking report. Winners will be announced on 27 July 2010.
