Innovative small businesses are being called on to enter the Nectar Business Awards for a chance to win a £4,000 prize.
Now in their second year, the awards will reward business owners that can demonstrate a combination of innovative thinking, best practice and hard work. Free to enter, they are open to any size of business, in any industry sector.
Four categories are available: Small Business of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, the Contribution to the Community Award, which recognises firms that have made a positive impact on society, and Online Business of the Year.
Entrants are required to explain how and why they set up their business, including details such as their business goals, their annual turnover and the business' influence on the local economy.
As well as national publicity, each winner will receive £2,000 cash, £2,000 to spend at office supplies firm Viking Direct and 50,000 Nectar points to spend on either themselves or their business.
Last year's winner of the Entrepreneur of the Year award, Fraser Doherty, founder of fruit spread manufacturer SuperJam, said receiving the prize was a "wonderful pat on the back".
"Getting the business off the ground was tough, but winning has encouraged me even more to continue with my ideas and to grow the company," he said.
Nectar client development director, Charlie Humphreys, said: "The awards will offer the chance for small businesses, entrepreneurs and social enterprises to show how they've beaten the odds to succeed in these difficult times. We hope that the awards will inspire more people to consider setting up their own business."
The deadline for entries is 31 May 2010 and winners will be announced in August.
